CFAP 2007 Summer Picnic

Save the day for CFAP’s annual summer picnic on September 9, Sunday, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, at East Waluga Park in Lake Oswego!  This year, our picnic will feature Chinese school student performances and artist Zifen Qian’s calligraphy that are free for registered members to take home!  We will also provide health consultation (free to registered members) and variety of fun activities.

There will be volleyball match, water balloon tossing, Chinese checker contest, card games, children’s arts, crafts and games at the picnic.  If you would like to recommend other activities, please forward your suggestions to president@portlandcfa.org.

Please bring a dish of your favorite food and join us for a day of invigorating outdoor activities, meeting and reconnecting with friends, and having some good laughs. You may even win a prize or two!

Saturday, September 15th 10:00am: watch the parade led by 25 foot dragons and lions along NW Broadway south to SW Alder and back to the NW Flanders festival street along 5th avenue.

Saturday, September 15th at sunset: watch spectacular fireworks from the NW Flanders Festival Street followed by a big screen outdoor movie.

Sunday, September 16th 11:00am to 4:00pm: visit the Classical Chinese Garden for free and enjoy local street performers.

Saturday and Sunday, September 15th and 16th starting at 11:00 am: enjoy family entertainment on the University of Oregon World Stage on the NW Flanders Festival Street featuring the Dragon Arts Puppet Theater, Charlie Brown jugglers and Westside Dance & Gymnastic Academy. For the slightly older, Klezmocracy, Dirty Martini Trio, Earl and the Reggae Allstars and Bethany & Rufus represent the multi-cultural neighborhood of Old Town Chinatown.

Take a walk and visit all the booths along both festival streets featuring food, fun or take a rubbing of the historical bronze plaques located in the neighborhood. Stop by the Arts, Culture and History booth to find all the hidden gems in Old Town Chinatown. View the future of the neighborhood at the OTCT Future Booth. Get a free massage from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine booth. Relax at the Cricket Tea Garden featuring Asian pastries from Meianna Bakery and tea from the Tao of Tea. Have dinner in one of the many eateries in Old Town Chinatown and then come back for fireworks and an outdoor movie.

Under the Autumn Moon is a production of the Old Town Chinatown Business Association with support from private sponsors, Portland Business Alliance, Portland Development Commission, Portland Clean and Safe, Portland Department of Transportation and TriMet. Taiji Classes

The parents at Springleaf Chinese School have organized TaiJi class for over two years. Now we’d like to expand our class into two: entry and intermediate levels.

The class is held from
12:30pm to 1:30pm every Saturday (the same day as kids' Chinese class). If you, your parents, or your friends are interested in the class, please email to Li Zhang (sun_mech@yahoo.com) ASAP. We need to count the attendances. Please visit Springleaf website for class time and location. http://springleaf.org/location.htm .

We have learned several TaiJi forms during last two years. Some of the forms are listed on our web http://springleaf.org/taiji.htm.

Taiji is suitable for all ages. It helps one gain strength, flexibility, and endurance. The health benefits are well recognized and can be appreciated for the years to come.

Our instructor, Ms Cong Zhang, teaches Taiji classes in several colleges for more than ten years. She started practicing Chinese Martial Art since age of five.

We use PCC dance studio for the class. The class is only $6 per session.

June 23 was a perfect day on the coast! There was no wind; the sun was shining brightly on us on the dock of Newport Bay! We had good luck to catch a few dozen red rock crabs. Everyone had crabs to take home. Some folks even got fresh Halibut fish heads & other fresh fish from local fishermen. We had a huge group with about 30 people. There were lots of cheers & laughter for hours on the dock. That was a fun day for all of us! (Mei Chen).
