(HPV primary screening algorithm)
- Last Sunday (October 6, 2024), we conducted self-collected cervical HPV testing with swabs for 15 community members at the CFAP clinic located on 82nd Street. The participants’ ages ranged from 32 to 61.
- All self-collected tests were valid (15/15, 100%).
- 2 participants (13.3%) tested positive for non-16/18 high-risk HPV genotype pools (including 12 other high-risk HPV types). Follow-up gynecological cervical smears are being arranged.
- 13 participants (86.7%) were HPV negative.
- All participants expressed high satisfaction with the organization of the event and the self-collection process.
- Follow-up activities are being actively arranged, and everyone is encouraged to stay tuned for CFAP updates.
Importance of HPV 16/18 Positive Testing
- Cancer Risk: HPV 16 and 18 are the main causes of cervical cancer. A positive result indicates a higher risk of cancer.
- Early Detection: Identifying HPV 16/18 infection allows doctors to monitor patients more closely and detect any potential lesions early.
- Regular Check-up Recommendations: A positive result typically suggests more frequent cervical smear tests or colposcopies to ensure any issues are identified early.
- Vaccination Guidance: Knowing whether one is infected with these high-risk types can help inform vaccination plans to prevent future infections.
Importance of Non-16/18 High-Risk Type Testing
- Ongoing Risks: Although non-16/18 HPV types (such as 31, 33, 45, etc.) have a relatively lower risk of causing cervical cancer, they are still associated with cancers and other genital diseases.
- Monitoring Lesions: A positive result for non-16/18 types requires regular check-ups to monitor for any abnormal changes.
- Overall Health Assessment: Understanding the presence of non-16/18 HPV helps in comprehensively evaluating one’s health and preventing future health issues.
- Education and Prevention: Test results can help people understand the different types of HPV, increasing public awareness of health risks and encouraging preventive measures.
