Supported by the Chinese Friendship Association of Portland and collaborated with the Chinese Language Teachers Association in Oregon, STARTALK-CFAP Chinese Language Student Program provides a 4-week in-person summer camp for 60 students, grades from of K to 8.
Students are divided into 4 learning groups based on their Chinese proficiency levels at the entry to the program. Each day is six hour long, with topics of language and culture in the morning and arts and dance in the afternoon. The curriculum design is to combine language learning and cultural knowledge and integrates cultural learning into every activity and sets up a platform for students to “understand”, “experience” and “practice” the Chinese culture. The theme of our program is “Stories of the Chinese Idioms 中国成 Students will tell idiom stories in Chinese in a variety of ways to the class and to their families. Each class will develop a drama based on their favorite Chinese idiom as a play. All students will have opportunities to perform the drama for their families and the Chinese community at the end of the camp. |
